The weather is here, I wish you were beautiful...

So I booked a rapper named Double B to perform at Youth Worship last night. It was quite possibly the greatest moment in the history of 1220 Outerpark Drive. Surely the ghosts of Ernie Stone have been exorcised from within the walls  of the church. He was  amazing at working the crowd and in the middle of a song he yelled, "everybody swing dance" and In the Mood started playing. I love my life.

R.R. Etc at the Undergound City Tavern - The Birth of Cherry Bombay

So last night Brandon and I arrived at the Hilton only to find that the boys from Whinebox got carried away at a weekend bachelor party and were apparently still recovering. When we asked if we could still play we were told that that would be fine so long as we were not plugged into the system. Sounds familiar. So Brandon and I pushed through a few songs truly unplugged before Brian the manager finally stepped in and cranked us into the system. By that time Brandon and I had already played most of our prepared set list but since there were people finally in the bar and we were so excited about our first set of songs, we decided to go ahead and repeat a few. From there, we ventured over to the Pizza Machine where I was amazed to find their latest fun item: a baby grand piano. Before the evening was over we had all ventured over to the new set of ebony and ivory for a raucous sing along. All in all it was a good night especially since my soul had been pretty much obliterated earlier that evening.

Set List Early Show:

Heavy Metal Drummer - WILCO song from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
#41 - Old Dave standard
Faith - George Michael early 90's pop
Irish Drinking Song - my own concoction of sloppy sing a long time
With or Without You - U2 cover

Set List Late Show:

Heavy Metal Drummer
Faith
Irish Drinking Song

Bad Day - old Fuel song with a sweet D chord xx0221
Clocks - Coldplay song from back in the day
Baby One More Time - Britney song that was neccessary to rile the drunks

Set List Late Late Show: (consisting of bits and pieces of the following)

Jude
Narcolepsy
Clocks
Fix You
A medley of DC Talk
Irish Drinking Song

All in all a pleasant evening

Sincerely,

Cherry Bombay

Read the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody...

...then think of them as a psalm, a prayer or maybe even a lamentation not unlike that of the prophet Jeremiah. Take that post-modern church -

Is this the real life-
Is this just fantasy-
Caught in a landslide-
No escape from reality-
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see-
Im just a poor boy,i need no sympathy-
Because Im easy come,easy go,
A little high,little low,
Anyway the wind blows, doesnt really matter to me,
To me

Mama,just killed a man,
Put a gun against his head,
Pulled my trigger,now hes dead,
Mama,life had just begun,
But now Ive gone and thrown it all away-
Mama ooo,
Didnt mean to make you cry-
If Im not back again this time tomorrow-
Carry on,carry on,as if nothing really matters-

Too late,my time has come,
Sends shivers down my spine-
Bodys aching all the time,
Goodbye everybody-Ive got to go-
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth-
Mama ooo- (any way the wind blows)
I dont want to die,
I sometimes wish Id never been born at all-

I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, scaramouche will you do the fandango-
Thunderbolt and lightning-very very frightening me-
Galileo,galileo,
Galileo galileo
Galileo figaro-magnifico-
But Im just a poor boy and nobody loves me-
Hes just a poor boy from a poor family-
Spare him his life from this monstrosity-
Easy come easy go-,will you let me go-
Bismillah! no-,we will not let you go-let him go-
Bismillah! we will not let you go-let him go
Bismillah! we will not let you go-let me go
Will not let you go-let me go
Will not let you go let me go
No,no,no,no,no,no,no-
Mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go-
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me,for me,for me-

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye-
So you think you can love me and leave me to die-
Oh baby-cant do this to me baby-
Just gotta get out-just gotta get right outta here-

Nothing really matters,
Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters-,nothing really matters to me,

Any way the wind blows....

So last night I returned to the world of the Underground City Tavern. It wasn't as much of a Robert Reynolds Etc. show as it was the Robert and Brandon show. Either way, in keeping with the traditions of the aforementioned band here's a look at the line up from last night's festivities.

The Players

Robert Reynolds - Guitar, Vocal
Brandon - Guitar

The Set

Sixth Avenue Heartache - Old Wallflowers song
Faith - The old George Michael classic. As I was leaving the Hilton I was told by several smokers outside, "hey, great job on the Limp Biskit song." I'm sorry George Michael, kids these days.
Creep - The Radiohead single that everybody knows. Elizabeth said I actually sold it. Sounds good to me.
Untitled Original Irish Drinking Song - So I wrote this a week ago. It's still not finished but Brandon said we should do it. I started it off by making up a story about how the events of the song are true and whatnot. Oh well, it got everyone's attention. Overall, I think it was the best song of the evening and it got quite a few laughs.

Afterward, Brandon, Elizabeth and I ventured over to Pizza Machine which is quickly becoming an addiction once again.

Sincerley,

R.R.

The South Pacific forced itself like a drunken lover onto the shores of Iwo Jima. The foamy edges crawled up the sandy slopes, washing layer after layer of earth out to sea, leaving bewildered hermit crabs and jellyfish to terrorize the inhabitants of the island. From the treelines one could look out over a soft blanket of blue and see the end of the earth. It was from this end that Sergeant Graham and Private Foxe had travelled. Their mission had been the simple recconisance task of spotting the positions of the Japanese and recording and reporting these to the U.S.S Maryland. Everything had gone wrong. They had arrived over a month before with a platoon of fresh troops ready to take on the world. Now it was only Graham and Foxe, lying wounded on the beach waiting for the last wave of Japanese soldiers to rush them and end their mission. Graham pulled out a pack of cigarettes, took one and pushed them into the direction of Foxe who was lying on his back just arms length away. Foxe smiled as he reached out.

"Where'd you get those?"

Graham took a long drag. "When we first came to this island I only brought two personal items, Foxe. A bottle of Jim Beam and a photograph of my mother. Well, half way up the hill the bottle was empty and I traded the photo to a fellow G.I. for a pack of Tiparillos. Thanks mom!"

Graham began coughing and laughing as he tried to roll himself over his still attached field pack and onto his back like a turtle on the sand. The hysterics coming from the beach were soon heard in the jungle.
